DRIVERS EYESIGHT

Does your company have an eyesight policy? Do you carry out basic eyesight checks on your drivers at regular intervals? Do you ensure that your drivers with Glasses get their eyes tested every 2 years?

OPERATOR LICENSING UNDERTAKINGS

This month we are going to look at; “Records are kept (for 15 months) of all driver reports which record defects, all safety inspections, routine maintenance and repairs to vehicles, and that these are made available on request”;

You may think that this would be straight forward, and in theory it is as long as you work on the basis that the vehicle folders should include all records of repairs to vehicles, routine maintenance and safety inspections.

The vehicle folder should be a COMPLETE RECORD of all of the work that has been carried out on the vehicle!

WHAT IS LOLER

LOLER stands for; The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998

How does it affect me in Road Transport? Do your vehicles have Tail lifts? Or a Crane/Hiab? With lifting accessories? These will all come under the LOLER regulations and may even come under the PUWER regulations (which we will look at in detail next month).
